Cat litter experiences
In this post:
I moved somewhere with a smaller bathroom to house a litter box for two cats, so suddenly my choice of cat litter became a lot more important. I tried several kinds and most of them sucked, but I finally settled on one that I’ve bought several boxes of now and it’s just fine. In order of when I tried them:
Pretty Litter⌗
- Doesn’t cover the smell
- Doesn’t clump
- Tracks everywhere
★☆☆☆☆
I can’t speak to its claimed ability to diagnose your cat with kidney failure, but I can say it’s not a good all-around full-time litter. I did take advantage of their refund guarantee because it lasted only a couple days before it was toast, but it is supposed to last much longer. Though, honestly, I’m not sure how much longer I could’ve put up with it.
World’s Best Original Series Unscented Multi Corn⌗
- Smells pretty bad on its own
- Doesn’t clump very well
★☆☆☆☆
Don’t buy it if you have a working nose.
Arm & Hammer Double Duty, Arm & Hammer Multi-Cat Unscented⌗
- Dusty
- Clean litter smells bad on its own
- Tracks easily
★★☆☆☆
I don’t really notice a difference between these. They both work, but not very well.
Arm & Hammer Clump & Seal AbsorbX⌗
- Dusty
- So dusty
- Like, really dusty
- Tracks everywhere, every time
- Absorbs ambient moisture and gets sticky eveywhere it’s been tracked
★★☆☆☆
Wear a mask when you pour it into the litter box and when you scoop it or you’ll inhale a ton of dust, which smells and tastes terrible. Also wear a mask in public because (at the time of writing) we’re still in a worldwide pandemic.
Arm & Hammer Clump & Seal “Ultra Odor Blasters”⌗
- Minimal tracking
- Slight scent of its own, but it’s not a bad one
- Clumps tightly
- Covers smell pretty well
★★★★★
After several boxes over the course of several months, this is the one I’m sticking with for now. The tracking is manageable and stays near the litter box, unlike others that ended up in other rooms. I don’t notice any smell until it’s time to scoop, and when I do that, the clumps stay together very well.
